Want to buy a 3D printer? This Is What We Recommend

Chizel started off as a 3D Printing service bureau. In those days, we ourselves had bought some 3D printers (desktop and industrial) and we realized that we, too, had not bought the right ones. Over the years, we did get a knack of the technology and industry and today we cater to a fleet of some of the best 3D Printers that out there in the market. WE have burnt our hands and with this blog, we hope that you do not repeat the mistakes that we once made.

Do you know which technology works best for your 3D Printing application? Have you figured out which is the right 3D printer to buy? If you have already selected one, are the specifications/features matching your requirements? Are they adhering to your needs? Are they budget-friendly? What if you can get a suitable 3D printer and end up saving big on the cost? What if you want to manufacture complex geometries, and you realize that the printer you bought, is not fit to produce such parts?

It is important to draw a clear map between your expectations of 3D printers and the ones available in market based on bed size, materials, tolerances, precision, cost and most of all maintenance of printers.

Fused Filament Fabrication (FFF)/Desktop FDM: Zortrax

We strongly recommend Zortrax machines because of their consistent quality across other Desktop FDM machines. It is very consistent in precision and surface finish.
You have got two options in this. Other than the bed size there is really not much difference.

  1. Zortrax Inventure:

    3d printers
First thing you should know about this. It is a dual extruder, that means no more breakaway support structures. Second, its light weight, only 21 kgs. (You know the lightest 3D printer available in market is Flashforge Finder weighing only 10 Kgs)
Print Technology: LPD Plus, i.e. Layer Plastic Deposition Plus which is nothing but FFF/Desktop FDM.
Layer Resolution: 90-290 µm with the wall thickness of minimum of 400 µm
    Bed size:  135 x 135 x 130 mm

  2. Zortrax M200 Plus:

    Print Technology:
LPD, i.e. Layer Plastic Deposition which is nothing but FFF/Desktop FDM.
Layer Resolution: Minimum of 90 µm and maximum of 390 µm with a minimum wall thickness of 400 µm.
    Bed size:  200 X 200 X 180 mm

Desktop SLA: Formlabs

Formlabs is a desktop-SLA technology, that means better surface finish than FFF. So if you are looking for good surface finish, you definitely need to go for this over desktop FDM.

  1. Form 2:

Formlabs have recently launched Form 2 Desktop SLA 3D printer, specially meant for industrial 3D designs. The presence of an empowered optical engine twinned with galvanometers makes the generation of large prints possible. Various other features include automatic resin filling system, creating prints over WiFi, tracking print queues, and a lot more.
    Print Technology: Desktop Stereolithography (SLA)
    Layer Resolution: 25, 50, 100 µm
    Bed Size; : 145 × 145 × 175 mm
    Weight: 13 kg

Comparative Analysis: Desktop FDM vs Desktop SLA

Kindly note that, the analysis is purely based on the experience of our technical team.
