What You Need to Know About Cloud Manufacturing.

It is inevitable to think about cloud manufacturing and ignore Geomiq and chizel which is exemplary in cloud manufacturing and boasts of over 1400 machines on its network and rapid tools and moulds. Geomiq also has many prototypes and a high quantity of precise parts that boost innovation while chizel focuses on a different aspect of making cloud manufacturing accessible to the masses with a huge supplier base.

What Exactly is Cloud Manufacturing?

It is important to understand what this ‘cloud’ we are referring to is. A cloud is basically a network that enables one to manage and store data on the internet. This has the advantage of saving time and resources for manufacturers. It is also known to be very sustainable and functional.

On the other hand, cloud manufacturing (CMfg) is a new manufacturing style developed from conventional manufacturing models and enterprise information technologies like cloud computing among other computing technologies.

Functionalities of cloud manufacturing include sharing and circulation of manufacturing resources as follows:

· Availability and supply of the manufacturing software on the cloud.

· Cloud manufacturing goes a notch higher than just computing and data storage because it involves all the factors of production. For instance, in the manufacturing business, there is engineering, design and management across the production line, as well as equipment and materials. This function also entails the relationship between the manufacturing companies or service providers and the users of the cloud. In this case, equipment that is rarely utilized is now used more frequently while the cost of the expensive equipment is reduced.

In addition, there are four modes of deployment for the cloud namely hybrid, community, public and private clouds, which are available to everyone simultaneously and can be accessed from a single point.

A centralized management effort in which services involved in manufacturing are shared within a company or its subsidiaries is what is referred to as a private cloud. This is where a company’s mission and applications of core business are kept.

A community cloud, on the other hand, is where manufacturing services are shared between many organizations from a specific industry that has similar or common processes and concerns. Services are shared to the general public through the public cloud while a hybrid cloud brings together any two clouds that are distinct to each other.

Benefits of Cloud Manufacturing:

Benefits of cloud manufacturing to manufacturers are endless. First of all using cloud manufacturing means that an organization’s IT team does not have to do the upkeep of the software, security, technical support and even hardware.

Cloud manufacturing comes in handy for small organizations with small IT departments or no IT departments at all as their tech issues are handled by their cloud software provider.

It also eliminates capital investment that is done beforehand as well as upgrades that may be required form time to time because, with cloud manufacturing, only a low monthly fee is required. Cloud manufacturing allows quicker processes which means no investment is required on data entry. Accounting and manufacturing communication processes are also quickened.

Over time, the manufacturing concept has been changing rapidly from enlarging production in the 1960s, to reducing the production cost in the 1970s, promoting product quality in the 1980s. Today, the emphasis is on knowledge and services which are spearheaded by cloud manufacturing.

Cloud manufacturing has been essentially enabled by cloud computing where enterprises have changed the way they operate by incorporating virtualized resources on the internet.

Presently, some of the functions that have come with cloud manufacturing include mobile reporting, online dashboards and automation, even as organizations continue to face challenges that can be eliminated by use of cloud manufacturing. Some of these challenges include regulations, huge data demand for efficiency, and the daily urge to innovate.

Many success stories of cloud manufacturing are available among manufacturing players, and images of the cloud manufacturing process can be seen below.

The popularity of the cloud is increasing among manufacturers because it takes care of their needs and eases use across multiple locations and because it provides IT assistance. Manufacturers are now able to shift their focus to their goal of increasing revenue.

Today, a significant percentage of all manufacturer’s software is based on the cloud with the numbers increasing by the day.

Conclusion:

Cloud manufacturing is a growing field which has created many new possibilities. It is ideal for small businesses that don’t have IT departments. Also, such businesses may not have lots of funds to spend on their operations, and cloud manufacturing can help them keep the costs as low as possible.
