Mild Steel

Mild Steel is an iron alloy containing a small percentage of carbon. Also called plain-carbon steel and low-carbon steel, it is now the most common form of steel because it is cheap in consideration to the material properties it possesses. Mild steel contains approximately 0.05–0.25% carbon.

Wall thickness

  • Minimum wall thickness should be 1mm anywhere.
  • For better results, it is recommended to maintain wall thickness above 2mm.

Minimum detail size

  • Minimum diameter that can be processed is 1mm.
  • Metal inserts may be required for softer materials.

Design consideration

  • Undercuts, T-slots, Dovetail slots are difficult to process.

  • Engraving is easier than embossing.
  • Embossing requires more material removal.
  • There are thickness limitations associated with embossing.

Corner Radius

  • Corner radius depend on the tool diameter
  • Too small diameters are hard to machine
  • Corner radii, if any, must be limited to 1mm diameter
